In late October, Østnes Helicopters welcomed a group of experienced pilots to Eggemoen Airport for a unique pilot training unlike any we have hosted before. Bringing together operational experience and Airbus’ international training expertise, the initiative set the stage for a focused, high–quality program dedicated to safety, precision, and knowledge sharing.

The Meeting Point for Expertise

The training was led by Airbus instructor Guillaume Ollivier, who joined pilots and instructors from Arctic Aviation and Fonnafly for three days of targeted briefings, in-depth technical discussions, and practical sessions in the field with the H125. The mission: to create an environment where operators and manufacturers exchange perspectives, refine procedures, and strengthen competence.

One of the highlights of the training program was the successful performances of full-touchdown autorotation by all participating pilots – a demanding safety maneuver that requires both skill and trust. This is mastered and practiced in few places in the world: due to its complexity - one must have the experience, and most important, the skilled instructor for its execution.

Feedback & Accomplishments From Participants after Pilot Training

Arctic Aviation and Fonnafly and Airbus have shared strong feedback, underlining the long-lasting value and accomplishments of this collaboration.

Torvald Rugsveen, Crew Training Manager & Pilot, commented:

“From the moment we arrived until we left, Østnes was extremely helpful in facilitating everything. The flying and discussions were excellent, and the training was exactly what we aimed for. We want to thank Østnes for taking the initiative to offer this training.

Guillaume Ollivier, Airbus Instructor, highlighted the exchange:

“It was a real pleasure to share and discuss with Norwegian pilots. Their skills and knowledge allowed us to go further and deeper during flights. Eggemoen and Østnes facilities are perfect for such training – modern, well-equipped, and supported by a fantastic team. My only regret: it was too short! I hope to come back to Norway soon.”

Strengthening the Culture of Safety

For Østnes Helicopters, initiatives like this underline our ongoing commitment to building competence within the rotorcraft community.  By creating arenas where experience meets top skills and new perspectives, we contribute to strengthening operational safety across the industry.

This training session at Eggemoen is a strong example of what can be achieved when customers, manufacturers, and training specialists come together with a shared mission: raising standards and sharing knowledge for the benefit of the entire aviation community.
